A CALL TO ACTION

Bloomfield Township Fire Department needed to update their Badge Patch & Maltese to better represent their department and increase visibility on scene among citizens. Their biggest goal was to make their Public Safety Officers and Firefighter Paramedics easily stand out as Bloomfield Township Officials.

Maltese + Badge

Bloomfield Township Fire Department wanted to update their department badge and Maltese (the four-winged crest symbolizing each segment of the department). Their old design pictured on the left was heavily defined by the American Flag in the background of each wing, not easily identifiable by citizens as a Fire or Public Safety worker.

They wanted a new Maltese specific to their department that would help make their Firefighters and Paramedics stand out and be easily identifiable on a scene. They picked a very traditional color scheme, with a specific gold trim from their patchmaker.

I was able to create a modern rendition of a traditional fire maltese, including their three branches of Fire, Rescue, and EMS. I created a custom type for "Bloomfield Twp" using the space and shape to the best of my ability while maintaining the traditional look and readability.

Adding a few traditional elements like the rope, and simplifying some ornate details, like the gold accents between the wings, I was able to create a beautiful badge and patch that fit in with Bloomfield Township's traditional look and feel, while giving them a unified and unique feel - specific to their department and line of work.
